Website development process

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

The website development process varies from project to project depending on the Customers needs and the Web Design Company. The following is a general overview of some of the steps you may encounter while developing your own online presence.

Initial Consultation (s)

  • Get a good feeling for if you’d like to work with this web development company. Just because you meet with them for an initial consultation doesn’t mean you are obligated to hire them.
  • Discuss your marketing needs as determined through the ‘Website cost and pre-quote questions‘ discovery section.
  • Ask questions, and also for recommendations and feedback on your marketing requirement needs and possible solutions.

After giving some thought to the whole concept of Time Management, I concluded that there is no such thing. Time manages itself, one second at a time, minute by minute, hour by hour… you get the picture. With or without me, its going to keep moving on.

Since working as a Freelance website designer, I have often found myself standing small and overwhelmed at a mountain that seemingly threatens to come down on me.

FLICK OFF - brilliant or boring?

Flick Off

What the FLICK?! Do you see what I see?

I’m so bored by the unoriginal, and the use of controversial as a means to get my attention.

So, here’s the scoop: FLICK OFF is a movement to fight climate change by getting Canadians to use less energy.

“We only have 10 years to dramatically reduce emissions or else we’re screwed.” is the message you will see when you visit the FLICK OFF website.

Choosing the right Website Designer

Hiring a website designer can be a daunting task.

Either everyone you know calls themselves a website designer, or you don’t know of anyone at all! Both have a way of leaving you wondering which way to turn.

Here’s a little something I wrote to help clear the path a bit for you…

Dot Com Tandoori a la BlueFur

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

A few weeks back, I had the opportunity to get together with other bloggers from the Vancouver area for lunch.

Typically this group heads out every Saturday for “dot com pho”, something I’ve not yet experienced, but hope to soon!

Well, last month in thier quest for international cuisine, the dot com mogul crew decided to head out to Tandoori Kona in Richmond for some East Indian food - you’ll have to check out John Chow’s Dot Com Tandoori at Tandoori Kona blog post for some enticing photos of the food.

This get-together was their largest gathering to date. In total, 16 people attended - and we all had a blast!

VCC - Vancouver Community College

I’m reminded of the days in elementary school, when each fall our beloved teacher would have us students write an essay titled “What I did this Summer”… as if the fact that summer was over wasn’t punishment enough!

Well, this spring/summer has certainly been eventful. I’m going to use the following projects as partial excuse for not writing in my blog as faithfully as I could have been.

Between rebranding Tazzu (another company I am working at, co-founded by myself and Rastin Mehr of rmd Studio) designing/developing websites for North49 Business Solutions, and Kids SRC 2007, and the assistance I gave to Vancouver Community College (VCC), my essay could write itself.

I’ll save the Tazzu story and Kids SRC 2007 for another time, and fill you in on the work I have done for the Vancouver Community College.

Time Management

Sheeesh!! The gap between this post, and my last is absolutely embarrassing.

My first defense is that I’ve been very busy. Its a lousy excuse actually. We all know that if you want to get things done, have a ‘busy’ person do the job.

Truth is… (my second defense)… I have horrible Time Management Skills. With so much on the go I occasionally find myself feeling overwhelmed at the mountain that stands in front of me. Perhaps its time to do a Google search and remedy this.

Hmmm… there could be some really great stuff to share with you as I go along! Stay tuned - I’ll keep you in the loop.
