JenTekk assists Vancouver Community College
I’m reminded of the days in elementary school, when each fall our beloved teacher would have us students write an essay titled “What I did this Summer”… as if the fact that summer was over wasn’t punishment enough!
Well, this spring/summer has certainly been eventful. I’m going to use the following projects as partial excuse for not writing in my blog as faithfully as I could have been.
Between rebranding Tazzu (another company I am working at, co-founded by myself and Rastin Mehr of rmd Studio) designing/developing websites for North49 Business Solutions, and Kids SRC 2007, and the assistance I gave to Vancouver Community College (VCC), my essay could write itself.
I’ll save the Tazzu story and Kids SRC 2007 for another time, and fill you in on the work I have done for the Vancouver Community College.
School of Music at VCC
I began working on the School of Music at VCC website in the winter of 2006, right after the VCC Marketing Department had created a cool & hip new look for the music school.
The S.O.M. presented me with their newly designed brochure, a diagram of the general information structure (with the content to follow), some functionality requirements, and then encouraged me to have fun with it… and I did.
The colors of the website, the wood grain, and School of Music at VCC buttons were the first obvious choices regarding style - as it was consistent with the design of their new brochure. This design, it’s look and feel, proved to be perfect.
When I presented my ideas and website mock-up to Director Sal Ferreras, Department Head Ken Morrison, and Student Services Coordinator Jodi Van Brunt, both the concept and design were met with great enthusiasm. I was given a unanimous two thumbs up, and moved ahead right away to it’s completion and launch this spring.
Creating and working on this website was a pleasure. A great big thank you to Sal, Ken, and Jodi for this opportunity. I wish you much continued success - personally, and with the School of Music at VCC!
VCC Library
At the end of June of this year, I was asked to assist the VCC Library with their website redesign, and content migration.
Much like the School of Music, the VCC Library was also undergoing a make-over and required the existing copy to be reformatted and embedded into the newly designed look.
When I stepped in to the project, the Library’s new look had already been designed by Shirley Lew (Library Systems Coordinator II and Webmaster), and it was up to me to develop the Library’s website pages - maintaining consistancy of it’s new look throughout.
2 months later, and on August 29th the newly designed Library website was launched… and in under 5 minutes - thanks Todd for the chocolate covered espresso beans! We celebrated with a launch party, which served up many thank yous, strawberry cheesecake, chocolate mousse and bevvys.
I am currently assisting the VCC Library with further development of their site, with the possibility of another VCC project on the horizon.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the gang at the VCC Library (you know who you are) for the opportunity to work on this fun project. It has been such a pleasure. I’ll be seeing you in the “Grotto” this Friday!
