Kids Summer Reading Club - hat trick!

“Email is like a box of chocolates — you never know what you’re gonna get.” (Forest Gump)

Okay so that’s not how the saying goes exactly, but for me much of ‘life’ happens through email.

You see, this week I received an email from the newly appointed Coordinator for the 2008 BC Summer Reading Program.

For the past 2 years I’ve assisted them with their Kids Summer Reading Club 2007, and Kids Summer Reading Club 2006, and was asked if I would be interested in developing their website again for the 2008 program. Booyah, thats 3 in a row… a hat trick! I am honored.

The Kids Summer Reading Club is sponsored by the British Columbia Library Association, where each summer over 80,000 kids head down to their local public library, sign up, and join the fun.

The Club theme changes every year with Extreme Reading for 2006, and Catch the Reading Bug for 2007. In addition, the program also hires a different local artist to draw the required illustrations - Kirsti Wakelin in 2006, and Ashley Spires in 2007.

The Kids SRC website itself plays a significant roll in the success of this program through online quizzes, links to interesting websites, book lists, games, downloadable coloring pages and so much more.

So… how can I resist?

Designing a site for the kids is a blast with all the bright colors, humorous illustrations and creative freedom, but helping them learn to read better… now that’s priceless.

Thank you BC Summer Reading Club 2008, I gladly accept your invitation.
