Tazzu WordCamp rockin’ the Hub!

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

This past Wednesday, myself, along with rmd Studio, PeerGlobe and Tazzu, and hosted Vancouver’s first WordPress Camp.

WordPress Camp Vancouver

Thanks to Amanda Abrams for this great photo!

We initially estimated around 35 – 40 people attending the event, located at the beautiful Network Hub. However, word got out, and a week before the event, RSVPs starting flooding in – yeah, I commenced to panic!

Phone calls were quickly made to locate a larger venue, but with such short notice none could be found, so we all just ‘pressed’ in. ;)

Shoppers Inc. Mystery Shopper Scam

Look closer… much closer! If it looks too good to be true, it is! Scams are everywhere, and unless people blow the horn on them, they will continue to take advantage of unsuspecting people.

I was prompted to blog about this scam as it is good… it looks very legit, and apparently many people are being taken in by companies just like this one.

Today, I received a congratulations letter along with a nice hefty (legit looking CIBC Toronto) cheque in the sum of $4650.00 CDN from a company who calls themselves “Shoppers Inc.”

Note: Yes, all those typos are in this letter.

Joomla! ... because open source matters

You may notice that JenTekk is becoming more and more involved in activities surrounding Joomla – as a participant and sponsor.

This is in part due to the fact that I adore the product – sure call me a Joomlarette if you want to! In addition, any projects that Rastin Mehr (from rmd Studio) and I collaborate on almost always involve using Joomla CMS. Rastin’s the fella that got me hooked on Joomla. I’m okay with this!

So I’d like to inform you of our next event: Vancouver Joomla DemoCamp01

Microsoft delivering us from evil: IE6!

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Download IE7 now!

If you’re a website designer/developer and utilize the power of CSS, you will know what I mean when I describe Internet Explorer 6 as evil.

Let’s face it, IE6 is a big ‘OOPS’! It is full of bugs, renders CSS terribly, and the bane of every web site designer who promises to deliver a cross-browser compatible website. You only need to Google IE6 + Hacks to see for yourself how tricky and wicked this little beast really is.

The most terrifying video you’ll see

Friday, October 5th, 2007

If this doesn’t cause you to sit up straight in your chair and take notice, then I don’t know what will.

This is simply the best argument for how we must respond towards the threat of Global Climate Change.

Nope, its not rocket science. Any one can see that the risk of not acting upon the possibility of a global catastrophe far outweighs the risk of acting on it.

How will you play this game?

Pass this message on and do your part, our world is counting on you.

PS: For those of you who think you’ve found holes in this argument:

Paying it Forward

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

pay it forwardThe sound of water splashing comes to mind as I dive in and write the first post in my blog.

I’ve questioned the purpose of JenTekk’s Blog for a while now, giving it time to permeate my mind.

Finally, last night during a networking meeting, that question wrote it’s answer on my heart.

You see, after graduating from College in 2001 with my website design/internet marketing diploma I set a general course: to quit my day job and pursue my dream.

That dream consisted of being self-employed, doing what I truly enjoy doing and making a living at it.

Sure the road has been somewhat bumpy, occasionally a tire would blow out, and I’ve certainly hit a few dead-ends. Even so, without any business marketing education, I naively continued to forge ahead.
